Cookie Policy

Effective 18 July 2026.

This page explains the cookies Binari Chowkidar uses and the data our analytics collects. Looking up an identifier needs no analytics cookies. We load analytics only after you accept — until then, only the small cookie that remembers your choice is set.

Your choice

You can enable or disable analytics cookies at any time. Disabling stops the Google Analytics tag and our first-party pageview beacon and removes the anonymous visitor id.

1. Necessary cookies

These are always on because the site cannot work correctly without them. They set no analytics.

  • ck_consent — remembers your cookie choice (analytics on/off), so we don’t ask again. First-party, ~12 months.
  • Session / sign-in cookies — set by our identity provider only when you sign in, to keep you logged in. No account or cookie is needed to search, talk to the assistant, or file a report.
  • chowkidar.lang — remembers your chosen language (English, اردو, or العربية). First-party, ~12 months.
  • ck_vprofile — stores the language and country you pick on your first visit, so the site is shown the way you read. First-party, functional, no analytics.
  • ck_onboarded — remembers that you completed (or skipped) the short welcome step, so it isn’t shown again.
  • ck_anon — a random, anonymous per-device id that lets you use the AI assistant (Chacha) and file a report without an account. It contains no name, email, or other personal detail and is used only to keep your own draft and report together.

2. Analytics cookies (only after you accept)

  • Google Analytics 4 — Google’s gtag.js sets _ga /_ga_* cookies to measure aggregate traffic and page usage. We enable IP anonymisation (anonymize_ip). We do not load it until you accept.
  • First-party visitor id (ck_vid) — a random, anonymous id we generate in your browser only after you accept analytics, so we can distinguish returning visits without accounts or third-party trackers. It contains no name, email, or other personal detail. A per-tab session id is also kept in your browser’s session storage and cleared when you close the tab.

3. What our analytics collects

When analytics is on, each pageview sends a first-party event to our own server containing:

  • the page path and the referring URL;
  • the anonymous visitor and session ids described above;
  • device signals your browser exposes: viewport size, screen size, pixel ratio (dpr), timezone, and browser language/locale.

Separately, and for abuse prevention and security, our server records information it sees on every request regardless of the beacon: your IP address, an IP-derived country (coarse location only — we never request precise device geolocation), the user-agent, and the associated network / ASN with best-effort VPN/proxy detection. This helps us detect fraud, spam reports, and automated abuse. We never store personal data such as your name or email in your browser.

4. Third parties

Google Analytics is provided by Google, which acts as our processor; usage data is subject to Google’s own terms. We do not sell your data, and we do not use analytics data for advertising.

5. Retention

  • The consent cookie and, if accepted, the visitor id last up to about 12 months.
  • Google Analytics data is retained per our GA4 configuration (aggregate reporting).
  • Abuse-prevention signals (IP, ASN, coarse country) follow the retention in our Privacy Policy — server access logs up to 90 days; abuse metadata up to 24 months — then deleted or anonymised.

6. Withdrawing consent

Use the Your choice control above to turn analytics off at any time — this immediately stops the beacon and Google Analytics and removes the visitor id. You can also clear cookies for this site in your browser, or use your browser’s Do-Not-Track / privacy settings. See our Privacy Policy for the wider picture and your data-protection rights.
